India: Jaipur

Here are some final posts from India, (there were a lot of photos...)

While in Jaipur, we had an elephant ride up to a fort, on Easter. It was amazing being that close to an elephant. They were decorated for Holi and it is an experience I'll never forget.

My legs hung over the side of elephant and become so hot from his skin. I was able to get up close to his face, and felt how rough it was. While on the ride, we were reminded of how commercial India had become - as there were hawkers, or people selling us things (rugs, paintings, jewelry, fabrics...) all the way up to the fort. I tried to imagine this experience, 20 or even 50 years ago and ignored their shouts.

On our way to Jaipur, we were also treated to a rural toll booth. Young men had placed cinder blocks and large rocks across the 'highway', and charged our bus a toll to pass. I was glad to see the exchange happen quickly and we were on our way.

Full pictures from Jaipur are here.
