Paris with Mom, Mary and Aunt Cathy

I just returned from a weekend in Paris! We did a ton of sight seeing: Notre Dame, Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, St. Chapelle, Monet's Gardens in Giverny.

Ate really well: Cafe Benoit, Le Coup Chou, Cafe Flore and Le Grande Colbert!

Such a fun time - lots of good conversations, and loving the beauty of Paris.

All of the pictures are here.

Alyssa & Steve - May 10, 2008

We just returned from Alyssa and Steve's wedding. The weekend started with a night in Manhattan with Kerry and Kevin - a wonderful dinner at Parilla and a beer at a fantastic Belgium beer house. The time difference got the best of me, so I literally was falling asleep in my chair.

After a early morning train ride out to Patchogue, a brief breakfast at George's with my parents and a car pick-up, we were headed out to Greenport.

We got to have lunch with Jen Scheriff, Drew and Jake and catch up before the rehearsal dinner. The dinner was fantastic - great to be with Lauri, Laura, Christine, Karen, Justin, (Emily & Ana,) Stacia and Doug. And then to the bar - where Karoake was in full force.

We got to see Alyssa sing Jewel's "You were meant for me," and her dad do an amazing rendition of "I'm a wanderer." It set the scene for the rest of the weekend. A combination of family, friends, laughter, sweetness and celebration.

Video of Alyssa and her dad coming soon!

Saturday we went for a breakfast and some shopping with Lauri, Christine and Laura and then the ladies all met to 'help' Alyssa get ready and have a toast.

She didn't need any help- she was glowing and beautiful. The day was perfect, with the sun coming out more and more during the afternoon. There were children all around, beautiful food and wine and dancing!

It was so fun for me to be there with my friends, their children and of course TJ. These moments are rare. To have such history and now husbands and children added to the group -it was a beautiful day and Alyssa and Steve's character and spirit were prevalent in all the details.

We finished the weekend with a mother's day meal at my parents and a superb late night meal for Kerry's birthday at Otto. The best ramp & friend egg pizza ever!

Alyssa and Steve!

We fly out tomorrow to New York to celebrate Alyssa and Steve's wedding. We have a fun night with Kerry and Kevin first, get to see my parent's for breakfast and then two days out in Greenport.
The wedding will take place at the Castello di Borghese winery in Cutchogue. Alyssa and I grew up together - (we met by being the only girls on our school league basketball team and a rather interesting ski trip via the girls scouts) - and have had over 20 years of fantastic events that we've shared. She was a bridesmaid at our wedding and we are so excited and happy to share in this day and event!

Real Food Festival

I went to the Real Food Festival in London: www.realfoodfestival.co.uk
It describes itself as the largest farmer's market ever...

It was filled with farmers and their products from throughout the UK. Their idea is that they would subsidize, (through the attendance fee that the attendees pay,) small farmers in order to introduce their products and highlight the beauty of small producers.

It was heaven for me, as I tasted my way through sea salt from Whales, smoked salmon from Ireland, sparkling cider from 'the midlands' and had some fun food experiences.

One cider-maker after pouring a taste for me, actually walked me over to a cheddar maker and made me try the two together. Ahh, fun!

Another interesting display was a cooking class where they were using rabbit. The chef actually hunted and killed all of the rabbits the evening prior, himself. Then each of the people in the class had to skin and butcher their own rabbit. Hmmm - that's connection with your food.

April...

April for me was days filled with sight-seeing and being a true tourist in London. We went to the theatre, (Joan Didion's 'Year of Magical Thinking',) I took a tour of 'Royal London' through Grn Park, St. James Park, and Westminster Abbey, went to a Real Food Festival, rowed each weekend and really enjoyed being home in London.

It's been one of the best months EVER!
